Integrated research communication and wide-ranging knowledge transfer
The redesign of the TIMSS Germany website was the first project to be realized as part of TIMSS Connect. The primary aim of the clearly structured new site is to communicate relevant information in a target group-appropriate way – for instance, by incorporating easy-to-understand visual media such as infographics and videos.
How can the general public find out about research findings? How can misunderstandings in their interpretation be avoided? And how can the relevance of education research and studies such as TIMSS be communicated to different target groups? Good social media use can go at least part way to answering those questions. The development of curated social media channels, via which we can share key facts relating to education research as well as interesting details and insights, is the second strand of the TIMSS Connect project.
The third aspect of TIMSS Connect thus focuses on transferring knowledge about the study’s findings to educators. Working with schools and teachers, we aim to ascertain how they would like the results of studies such as TIMSS to be communicated, and how they can benefit more directly from related research findings. This could range from workshops on evidence-based teaching and learning to the development of specific teaching materials.
A first step towards greater practical relevance is the German adaptation of the IEA’s Teacher Snippets format. You can download a PDF file of one of these summaries – on attitudes to mathematics teaching among fourth-grade students – by clicking on the image below.
